Stealing the Show

James did not disappoint at Everett's 1 year smash cake shoot :)  He stole the show!

Smash Cake?

To continue the theme of "Best Laid Plan".  I wanted to get a few 1 year pictures of you and I hoped to capture you having a grand old time smashing your first birthday cake.  It looked very wonderful and perfect on Pinterest (doesn't it always!).  Well, how to put this correctly... you were not having it! :)  A big thanks to our friend Shelly for still managing to capture my littlest in all it's "not-so Pinterest" perfection. I'll cherish these moments forever and I'll look at these to remember to keep breathing through the chaos.  Thank for teaching me "not so perfect" is sometime the best perfection.

Poor Baby...Priceless
I didn't plan on being in the shoot ;)

Birthday Party Fail

So, the weather didn't exactly cooperate for your big 1st birthday party.  I had planned this great golf themed bash with 30 of our closest friends, but God had different plans for a more intimate setting...

A few days before the big party, you came down with a horrible cold and ear infection, only to be rivaled by a UR infection for Mom.  The night before the party, "ice-mageddon" fell upon Frisco and despite my wishful thinking, I decided to cancel 5 hours before everyone was to arrive.  So instead, a small family event with most of the decorations still in the closets and homemade cupcakes (which you were afraid of).  Some of the best laid plans...

Maybe next year big guy :)

My Baby is 1

What a year it has been. As in all other posts, I'm late...and I'm still in denial that my baby is a year old.  Everett, I'm not even sure where to begin to describe how amazing you are; how fun, how funny, how smart and so, so handsome.  You are a gift from God and you make me so happy each and ever day.  A little bit about you now that you're 1!!!

Stats:
24.5 lbs
30 inches

After a month of phase out (now at 13 months) you are weaned off formula and drinking whole milk great- and lots of it!  You're still taking 3 bottles a day; 8-10oz (wake up, before nap, and before bed).  You take a sippy cup fine, it's really Mom who doesn't want to get rid of the bottle.  You just now, started to hold your own bottle.  You absolutely can...you just like mom to do it better.  I don't mind.  You're eating table foods a little better, although you are still incredible picky.  I'm not sure if you've ever put a vegetable to your lips (unless I've hidden it somehow) and you're still getting used to fruit.  Your favorites: hamburger, hotdogs, sausage, cheese, yogurt, pasta, bread, crackers, pears, mandarin oranges and bananas. You love milk and water and haven't acquired a taste for juice.  I might keep it that way if I can ;) You are awesome at drinking from a cup and a straw.  If you didn't want to walk around with it, I would let you graduate.

You're sleeping regularly these days; wake time around 6:30-7:00am nap at 1:00pm till about 3:00pm and bedtime at 8pm.  You go down pretty easy as long as you have your elephant lovie and your monkey.  It's so sweet how attached you are to these comfort items. I still rock you at night, not to sleep, but it's our snuggle time and I'm going to have a HARD time giving it up when you no longer want to.  Do you notice a theme here :)

You love to be outside; riding bikes, walking, sweeping, shoveling, swinging, sliding.  It hasn't been the best weather this winter/spring, so I'm looking forward to releasing to you the outdoors soon.  You love sports and anything that requires a ball. You have crazy strength and can throw a ball about as far a I can. You have amazing eye/hand coordination and continue to WOW me with the things you can do; catch a ball, put small toys in small places, hammer small items, hold a crayon and color pretty well, put on caps.  You will definitely be the kid takes apart my electronics ;)  You've been walking now for awhile, took your first steps at 10 months and are now, at 13 months, perfecting your run! You sure can move for a new walker.

You are loving school and are passing milestones with ease.  So far no real stranger danger although you hesitate with new people and like to flirt with them safely in mom's arms.  Grammy and Gramps are living with us now and you and Gramps are pretty inseparable.  I hope you always have this sweet relationship with him; he is your namesake so you're connection makes perfect sense.  You love your big brother something fierce but next to mom, Charlie is the one who owns your heart.  You love animals especially dogs. Our next field trip will definitely be to the zoo.

With your love of animals your first words after mama and dada have been dog-dog and "woof".  You are also trying to make all kinds of animals sounds and so far have gotten; "woof", "moo", "who-who" and "co-co".

I could go on and on about you but I'll sum it up with you make all our lives better, more joyful, and definitely add a whole new level of silly-ness. We all love to you to the moon and back!

Happy Birthday my sweet boy.

Love, Mom

11 Months

The days are ticking by so fast...I can't keep up.  Already it's been another month and all the sudden you're 11 MONTHS! WHAT.  THE.  HECK!  I know I say this all the time, but this time it's really true, I really can't believe it.

You are everything; busy, funny, dramatic, loving, cuddly, stubborn, full of life, awesomeness. 11 months has been good to you.  You are so so so close to walking and getting braver every day.  You have, on multiple occasions, taken 4-5 steps by yourself.  Every time you do, you clap and cheer loudly for yourself (yeah Everett)! It is the cutest thing.

You are eating like a champ now.  Still loving meat the best and will eat everything from ham, chicken, meatballs, turkey, pork.  Your favorite food is eggs with cheese.   You can eat 2 whole scrambled eggs with cheese- CRAZY.   You also love pasta, crackers and bananas.  You will not touch a vegetable...we will work on that :)  You are down to 4 bottles 7, 10, 1, 7 of about 6 oz each.  You also decided this month that 1 nap is enough (seriously!!!) so going down now around 12/1 and will sleep for 2-3 hours.

2 more teeth (top) have made their decent. Last time we were at the doctor you weighed in at 24.5! Yea you're true to your nick name...the TANK :)

Happy Birthday my Sweet E
Love, Mom

Our Village Goes to the Cabin

For the past 3 years, our life group has ventured up North about 3 hours to Broken Bow, OK where we rent the biggest cabin we can find to house our 5 families and 11 kiddos.  We did it again this year and had the best time yet! The kids played great together.  The grown ups talked, ate and drank our hearts and souls content.  We decided that Everett would have more fun with Grammy and Gramps and save us the torture of a 1 year old in a car that long, so he stayed behind.  We missed him terribly but it was nice to have some 1 on 1 time with James.  I've missed him and he growing up too fast!  We are so blessed by this group of people in our lives.  They have become "our village".  We have been through a lot together the past 4 years and have truly become more than friends...we are family.  What a wonderful tradition we have started for our kids...and for us.
